Gender Stereotypes in Norway
Norway is one of the most equal gender countries in the world. There is a focus on what you can do, instead of your gender. This country has worked for decades in equality policies and in the creation of tools like the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act, which promotes gender equality actions like making sure men and women have the same opportunity. So, no, there aren´t gender stereotypes in Norway.
This have lead to a culture shock, many men that travel to Norway have always been taught to open doors for women, to give them a seat in the bus, to pour wine first for them, and all that kind of things, and as soon as they arrive to this country they learn that women are independent, because no one told them that women had to be submisive, that men are the ones that protect them, and that they should expect to be protected by them.
And this can be seen in Norway´s reality. Their First Minister is a woman, abortion is safe and free, marital rape is illegal, they have pregnancy insurances. Altough, wages are not always equal.
The fight for equality in Norway is far from over, and all Norwegians are ready to battle.
